The course aims
Students will learn how to use specialized literature in English and how to implement basic communication skills through: knowlegde of, and use of basic professional vocabulary of business and IT; mastering common communication situations in English; exchange of information and opinions in the professional context; use of grammatical structures; writing short descriptions, summaries and business letters relating to business topics.
Content
Introduction to English for IT through acquiring concepts and terms of business and IT vocabulary. English grammar: nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs, conditionals, numbers, the passive voice. English spelling and other characteristic details of the programme contents. Discussion and analysis of informative reading texts aimed at developing reading, listening, writing and speaking/communication skills.

Minimum learning outcomes

  1. The student will use and understand the basic English vocabulary from the professional literature in given exercises
  2. The students will use basic English tenses in given exercises
  3. The student will write a simple business letter according to given elements
  4. The student will prepare a short presentation and present it in front of the class.
  5. The student will use and understand specific IT vocabulary in given exerciises
  6. The students will use all English tenses, active and passive voice, conditional sentences and reported speech in given exercises
  7. Write a summary of a longer technical text (minimum of 100 words)

Preferred learning outcomes

  1. The student wil use and understand English vocabulary in professional literature in everyday communication
  2. The students will use basic English tenses in everyday communication
  3. The student will write a more complexs business letter according to given elements
  4. The student will prepare a presentation on a certain professional subject and present it in front of the class
  5. The student will use and understand specific IT vocabulary in everyday communication
  6. The students will use all English tenses, active and passive voice, conditional sentences and reported speech in everyday communication
  7. Write a summary of a longer technical text (minimum of 200 words)
