The course aims
To introduce the basic topics in probability and statistics which are useful in numerous engineering problems.
Content
Students will acquire the knowledge in basic concepts in probability in statistics, such as the probability space, the definition of probability, random variables, distributions, sets and patterns, and the basic statistical methods. In addition, students will adopt several methods for collecting and analyzing data, as well as making decisions based on the obtained results.

Minimum learning outcomes

  1. To adopt the basic combinatorial notions and rules. To calculate the probability in the classical probability space.
  2. To determine the conditional probability of an event.
  3. To determine basic numerical characteristics of a given discrete random variable. To evaluate numerical caracteristics of some continuous random variables, especially the normal and exponential random variables.
  4. To calculate the basic quantities for given discrete statistical dana.

Preferred learning outcomes

  1. To recognize the corresponding structures in enumerative combinatorics. To calculate the probability in some infinite probability spaces.
  2. To apply conditional probability when using total probability rule and the Bayes rule .
  3. To determine the law of distribution of a random variable in the corresponding problem. To apply important properties of binomial, Poisson, normal and exponential random variables in solving some problems.
  4. To calculate some quantities for given continuous statistical dana.
